First Twitter-Based Hedge Fund Opens in London

Take “first” with a grain of salt, it’s been around for a while. Perhaps this is the first hedgefund that is upfront about it?  

But the idea that you can predict the stock market by analyzing the general populations state of mind is really really interesting to me.

For a description read Bollen, Mao and Zeng’s paper “Twitter mood predicts the stock market”.

So, will it work? That depends on several factors such as wether or not it’s actually an accurate assumption that analysis done this way works in enough cases.
